How to Install a Bath Shower Screen in 5 Simple Steps
Fitting a bath shower screen is a relatively easy task that can enhance both the appearance and practicality of your bathroom. Follow these straightforward steps to complete the installation successfully.
What You’ll Need:
- Bath shower screen
- Measuring tape
- Spirit level
- Pencil
- Drill with suitable bits (typically 6mm or 8mm masonry bit)
- Wall plugs and screws (usually provided with the screen)
- Screwdriver
- Sealant gun and silicone sealant
- Safety goggles
Step 1: Take Measurements and Mark the Wall
Begin by placing the bath shower screen at the edge of your bath, making sure it sits snugly against the wall. Use a spirit level to ensure it’s vertically straight. Once you’ve got it positioned correctly, use a pencil to mark the points where the fixing holes for the wall channel will be drilled. Accurate marking is crucial for a secure fit.
Step 2: Drill the Holes
Wear your safety goggles, then drill into the wall at the points you’ve marked, using the correct drill bit size. If you’re drilling into tiles, apply gentle pressure to prevent damage. Insert the wall plugs into the holes, making sure they sit flush with the surface.
Step 3: Fix the Wall Channel
Next, attach the wall channel (the frame that will hold the screen) to the wall. Align it with the holes you’ve drilled, and secure it in place using the screws provided. Double-check that it’s still level with the spirit level.
Step 4: Install the Shower Screen
Carefully slide the bath shower screen into the wall channel. Most screens come with adjustment screws that allow you to tighten and secure the screen in place. Some screens may also have additional brackets for extra support.
Step 5: Seal the Edges
To ensure a waterproof finish, apply a thin layer of silicone sealant along the bottom edge of the screen where it meets the bath, as well as along the outer edge of the wall channel. Let the sealant cure for 24 hours before using the shower to ensure it’s fully waterproof.
Extra Tips:
- Always check the manufacturer’s instructions as installation processes can vary depending on the screen model.
- Use masking tape along the bath edge before sealing to get a neat, professional finish.
- Regular cleaning of the screen helps prevent limescale buildup, which is common in areas with hard water across the UK.
By following these five simple steps, you'll have a securely fitted bath shower screen that keeps your bathroom splash-free and looking great.
